Backgammon Online App Reviews
I had no problems with the previous version, but saw an update notification and installed 1.3 though I had yet to install Sierra on my iMac, using a newer Magic Mouse (which had no earlier problems left and right clicking to designate moves. After upgrading to Sierra (10.12.2), left clicking takes several attempts each time, right clicking to move lower roll is no problem. And the oddest thing is it gets more difficult getting a stone to move via left click as the game goes on. I hope this helps the developers because it’s made Backgammon Online a really tedious experience.
STILL DOESNT WORK
After the update, its mpossible to register or to connect to the server. Shame on you. This app should be out of the AppStore !
I installed last year and have never been able to use it. I forgot my nickname or password, online support could not help to solve the problem. They are not developed enough to make things go smoothly.
Having used a few FIBS clients on the Mac over the years, Ive longed for someone to make one that seemed like it belonged on a Mac. This one does. Being able to scale the board to any size is alone worth the asking price. It looks and plays very nice, and the animations are smooth and likable.
Im an OK backgammon player. I win most games I play unless luck goes against me or I am playing someone really good … and lucky. But this app is the most uneven weird thing I have ever experienced. When I started I won games and shot up from 1500 rating to over 1700 as one would expect and experienced player to do. Then I started to make comments on the community board about how weird I noticed the dice were and got very flip comments from the people managing the server - as you would expect if it was programmed to be random. But and over the next games all of a sudden my luck changed permanently. Over and over mhy opponents would come from behind with amazing odds, which is to be expect sometimes, but way out of proportion. My opponents were getting doubles and very lucky unlikely roles and I got stuck on the bar almost every game. I continued to play to see if these was some kind of weird run of the dice, but I am really sick of it. I trashed it and suggest other people do the same or not buy it. I cant prove it but there is something not right here since my games here are different from games with real dice or at other online venues such as Microsofts Backgammon. I dont know of a way to verify the dice in an online game like this, and whatever peculiarity is not changing the overall randomness of the dice, just favoring one player or the other randomly as if it was programmed to control the game. I cant prove it but I know when something is wrong. Find something else for online backgammon. I think there is some sophisticated stuff being done on this server … it is not the developer of this app per se where the problem lies. The worst thing is that it actually costs money.
This is great software, and its great to see that folks are still developing clients for fibs. Unlike some other clients or programs that allow fibs connection as a feature, this has no ads, which is great. It seems to run smoothly and has a pleasant interface. There are only two things that keep this from getting 5 stars in my book. 1: no repbot integration. This is a pretty big deal, because on a server where rating is everything, you need to be able to tell if someone has a history of dropping matches. 2. the split window interface for chat vs gameplay is kind of clunky, and it would be more pleasant to have the chats gathered into the same window as the match. All in all, a very nice client.
It should be fun and challenging to play the Bots, but its so stacked against you that you never win. I would also swear that sometimes it moves rolls that it didnt get, but it moves too fast to tell. Its not even a game of skill when you play them, because they always get the exact rolls they need and you dont.
As an avid backgammon player, this game is boring as hell. Only played the online version and the game is completely one sided. I ignored the previous rolls because I thought they were related to only the computer play, but even the online play has major flaws. You are either getting ALL the rolls or your oppoinet is. Streaks are an understatement… Also the game shows no intution, for example, if your opponet is blocked out and has a piece off the board, why waste the time to have them roll?!? Might be good to learn with, but for someone who knows even just the basics, I would save your money...

So far..not so good. Cant open it. Wrote for tech help…so well see.
The app requires user to send an email to an administrator. The approval process is not automated. The person that approves accounts denied my wife because I already have an account. Why do accounts require approval? Didn’t I pay for this app? Why dont you approve the user before they waste money buying this garbage app?
I love to play fibs, once I upgraded to Yosemite, "cocoa fibs" the program I was using, didn’t work as well. So I looked on the App Store and found this beautiful program! Some reviewers don’t seem to realize that this program only gives you access to “fibs” which you do have to sign up for a free membership. If you don’t like fibs, don’t blame “Backgammon Online”. It would be like blaming Safari for the bad content on the internet! Anyways it is a beautiful program that works very well, would just like to see the “Lobby” work a little better, then I will give it the full five stars!
Ok but has bugs
Once in awhile, one of more pieces dissappear from the board, or thre will be a black sploth where a piece was. I've reported this bug but no respnse. Further, the app currently does not work with OS Mojave.
Click Sensitivity

Boring and one sided...

So frustrating

Needs Repbot

FIBS done right!
